RACE #5
Race Predictions (Bannon): Harvest Home, Altona Road, Naval Strike
Race Predictions Abernathy: Harvest Home, Naval Strike, Carcillo
DON
VALENTINO is
bred for turf being from the family of Breeders’ Cup Mile
winner, Artie Schiller; when he debuted May 18th, he was on Poly
track and was pinched back early and couldn’t find a level
stride; moving to the turf should help
his action; he has since worked on turf for Brian Lynch.
KARLENS has not been a factor to date on Poly
track but will give the turf a try; he worked recently on turf
in 59.1
NAVAL STRIKE was in against key runners in his
return to the races May 29th and finished third with Altona Road
second and that one is here; most recently, he looked like
he was headed for a high placing with a rating trip in traffic;
however, an accident happened right in front of him and he
went over downed rivals then was pulled up; he has come
back with a work on turf and now moves to a footing that he
should love; is by Smart Strike and is a half brother to
Danceroftherealm, a stakes winner on turf.
HARVEST HOME is beautifully bred top and bottom
for turf and stamina; he has been a fringe player so far; his only
start this year came April 15th at Keeneland when he was on the
edges; he resurfaces for Mark Frostad to go ten furlongs on turf.
CARCILLO stretched to nine furlong on Poly track
May 31st in a race that featured a faltering late pace; he made
a move
towards the inside to be second then finally finished fourth in
what was for the runner up, a prep for the Queen’s Plate;
he
now moves to turf, a footing for which he is bred; he worked
on turf with Ramsammy June 24th in 1.14.
LANGARTIC is by Langfuhr and from the same dam
that produced the stakes winner on turf, Woolloomooloo; he
indicated little in a Poly track opener but now goes to turf.
FULL THROTTLE has indicated a good stride for
turf in training works; he is from a good family and now moves
to
the lawn in this fourth start of the campaign; he seeks his
first career share.
TARGET DATE woke up second time out but was at
the minimum level on Poly track; he has since run poorly; he
now goes to turf an his sire was perfect on the lawn. KENSINGTON
OVAL is by With Approval and so moving
to the turf should be helpful; he tripped over a downed rival
June 17th; Simon Husbands retains the mount.
PORT STANLEY showed some gradual improvement last
time at a route for $32,000 when staying on; he is by
Perfect Soul and now steps up to try turf.
REMEMBERING RYAN added lasix for a turf race at
Fort Erie last time where he was seventh of twelve; he sees
the Woodbine turf course for the first time.
ALTONA ROAD was victimized by the slow pace June
19th; his less fancied stable mate who finished second set
reserved fractions; he moved in the stretch to be a sharp
third and the winner was well regarded; he now gets on turf
for the second time; he had initial xposure to the lawn in
Florida earlier this year.
Racing!
May
22ND, 2009
Don
Valentino made his 2009 racing debut on Monday May 18th at Woodbine
race course in Canada. He raced in Race 7, a Maiden Special Weight
over a course of 1 1/16 miles of All Weather synthetic. Jockey Robert
Landry guided him to a 9th place finish. He went off at what I felt
were surprisingly low odds. I guess the Stronach/Adena name still
caries some weight in Canada, despite the economic times and financial
woes of the Stronachs.
Lets
hope for more races, and better results to come. Past Performances
